Physical literacy aims to develop the fundamental movement skills that children require in order to increase the motivation, confidence and competence they will need to develop healthy, active lives.
The early years mark a time of rapid growth, physical, emotional and social development and physical literacy is as important as early literacy, numeracy, music and science. Our staff act as role models as children of all skills and capabilities develop and practice fundamental movement skills through active play and exploration, both inside the classroom and during outdoor playtime.
Music, yoga, movement games, obstacles courses and story re-enactments are introduced regularly in our physical literacy curriculum and help develop balance, coordination, flexibility and spatial awareness. Our outdoor spaces encourage children to take reasonable risks and develop physical competence as they explore an environment filled with a variety of natural elements, play structures and age-appropriate play equipment.
